 Shirley's book for teenagers, Krystal Bull Psy-Chick, was shortlisted in the Wannabe a Writer? novel competition in 2008. It was also shortlisted in the Cornerstones Literacy agency ''Are You Ready To Submit?' competition March 2009. Shirley has just heard that she has won first prize in the Swanwick 2009 Children's Story Competition with her book Body Trapped. She wins a week at the Swanwick Writing School in August 2009.
